DEKTITE pipeboots come in either EPDM rubber or high temperature, red silicone. Silicone are typically used in higher temperature applications, like B- Vent or direct vent chimneys, for example. They are NOT meant to be used on stove pipe. In order to determine whether a silicone boot is acceptable for a particular application; 1. first determine the maximum temperature (both constant and intermittent) that is expected on the surface of the pipe from the appliance manufacturer 2. next, check the DEKS spec. sheet to see if DEKTITE silicone pipeboots meet the required temperature requirements 1 - a link to the spec. sheet can be found by clicking the link on the right Non-professionals and do-it-yourselfers should always check with a professional installer to ensure they have the correct product for the application. Note: For Class A type double-walled chimneys, (eg. Selkirk Chimney), some jurisdictions require a 1” separation between the pipeboot and the outside wall of the chimney. Selkirk manufacturers a special kit for these installations that includes a #9 DEKTITE EPDM pipeboot and all the necessary hardware.
SILICONE
1] EPDM will withstand constant temperatures at the roofline of -50°C (-58°F) to 115°C (239°F) and up to 150°C (302°F) intermittently. Red Silicone will withstand constant temperatures at the roofline of -50°C (-58°F) to 200°C (392°F) and up to 250°C (482°F) intermittently.
